“I think it will be a good thing,” Trump said on NBC’s “Meet the Press” Tuesday.
“I think that we’re going to release a platform by the end of the week, I think it’ll be a very good thing.
But I think we’re still going to work on it.
It’ll be really good.
We’ve got to work through it.”
Trump’s comments come amid a growing chorus of Republicans who say the platform is critical to understanding the election and the country.
“This platform will define the debate,” Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus said on “Meet The Press.”
Trump also said the GOP platform will give the party the “opportunity to say what we’re for and what we want,” and that the party will “be focused on a lot of things that we need to do for the country, but also to be focused on what we have to do as the president.”
Trump, however, said his administration would not be in the position of making policy decisions on issues that might have an impact on the country and its citizens.
“We’re not going to be in a position to decide what’s best for the United States,” Trump told NBC.
“That’s not what our job is.
Our job is to do the best we can to make the country great again.”
The Republican National Convention will kick off in Philadelphia on July 18, 2020, but will be held at the same venue for the first time in history, a venue that was already occupied by the National Football League’s Indianapolis Colts.
